One of the members considered very important in this process are the odorant binding proteins (OBPs) which are believed to aid in the transport of odorants and pheromones to the odorant receptors (ORs) and have emerged as novel targets for repellants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are here reporting a manually curated database of OBPs for mosquitoes and moths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the mosquito OBPs, we report 69 OBPs in <a href=\"https:\/\/protsci-us2b.univ-nantes.fr\/mobpdb\/?page_id=503\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Anopheles gambiae<\/em><\/a>, 111 OBPs in the<a href=\"https:\/\/protsci-us2b.univ-nantes.fr\/mobpdb\/?page_id=532\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em> Aedes aegypti <\/em><\/a>and 109 OBPs in the <a href=\"https:\/\/protsci-us2b.univ-nantes.fr\/mobpdb\/?page_id=669\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Culex quinquefasciatus<\/em><\/a> genomes [1]. We also report OBPs from other species of the <a href=\"https:\/\/protsci-us2b.univ-nantes.fr\/mobpdb\/?page_id=9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Anopheles<\/a> genus: <a href=\"https:\/\/protsci-us2b.univ-nantes.fr\/mobpdb\/?page_id=544\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>A. albimanus<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/protsci-us2b.univ-nantes.fr\/mobpdb\/?page_id=554\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>A. arabiensis<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/protsci-us2b.univ-nantes.fr\/mobpdb\/?page_id=559\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>A. atroparvus<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/protsci-us2b.univ-nantes.fr\/mobpdb\/?page_id=585\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>A. christyi<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/protsci-us2b.univ-nantes.fr\/mobpdb\/?page_id=590\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>A. coluzzii<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/protsci-us2b.univ-nantes.fr\/mobpdb\/?page_id=593\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>A. culicifacies<\/em> A<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/protsci-us2b.univ-nantes.fr\/mobpdb\/?page_id=599\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>A. darlingi<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/protsci-us2b.univ-nantes.fr\/mobpdb\/?page_id=603\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>A. dirus<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/protsci-us2b.univ-nantes.fr\/mobpdb\/?page_id=614\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>A. epiroticus<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/protsci-us2b.univ-nantes.fr\/mobpdb\/?page_id=627\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>A. funestus<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/protsci-us2b.univ-nantes.fr\/mobpdb\/?page_id=629\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>A. maculatus<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/protsci-us2b.univ-nantes.fr\/mobpdb\/?page_id=632\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>A. melas<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/protsci-us2b.univ-nantes.fr\/mobpdb\/?page_id=650\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>A. merus<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/protsci-us2b.univ-nantes.fr\/mobpdb\/?page_id=655\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>A. minimus<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/protsci-us2b.univ-nantes.fr\/mobpdb\/?page_id=657\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>A. quadriannulatus<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/protsci-us2b.univ-nantes.fr\/mobpdb\/?page_id=506\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>A. sinensis<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/protsci-us2b.univ-nantes.fr\/mobpdb\/?page_id=664\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>A. stephensi<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are currently adding OBPs from three moths species: <a href=\"https:\/\/protsci-us2b.univ-nantes.fr\/mobpdb\/?page_id=1090\"><em>Bombyx mori<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/protsci-us2b.univ-nantes.fr\/mobpdb\/?page_id=1104\"><em>Bombyx mandarina<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/protsci-us2b.univ-nantes.fr\/mobpdb\/?page_id=1122\"><em>Manduca sexta<\/em><\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>There are 3 families of odorant binding proteins in mosquitoes and moths<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the <em>Classic<\/em> OBPs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the <em>PlusC<\/em> OBPs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the <em>Two-domains <\/em>also know as <em>duplex<\/em> (OBPs formerly known as the <em>Atypical <\/em>OBPs)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The hallmark of OBPs are their conserved <strong>6 cysteines<\/strong> that forms <strong>3 disulphide bridges<\/strong>.However the number of cysteines and the disulphide connectivity patterns of the OBPs vary among the different subfamilies.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/protsci-us2b.univ-nantes.fr\/mobpdb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/figure1-cysteine-patterns.png\">Click here for a graphical illustration<\/a>. A subgroup in the <em>Classic<\/em> OBPs called the <em>MinusC<\/em> OBPs and a subgroup in the <em>two domain <\/em>OBP subfamily called the <em>matype2<\/em> do not have all the six conserved cysteines in their OBP domains. <em><strong>Atypical<\/strong><\/em> odorant binding proteins are in fact <strong>two-domain or duplex OBPs<\/strong>, where each domain is distantly related to the <em>Classic<\/em> OBPs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are providing in this database<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>full genomic data<\/strong> (list of OBP genes, chromosomal or supercontig localization, sequence alignment data, phylogenetic data and orthologues).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>functional characterization of all <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><em>Classic<\/em><\/span> OBPs<\/strong> from mosquitoes model species <em>Anopheles gambiae<\/em>, <em>Aedes aegypti<\/em> and <em>Culex quinquifasciatus<\/em> screened against a large library of <strong>126 odorants<\/strong>&nbsp;known to be <strong>repellents<\/strong> and <strong>attractants<\/strong> using <strong>molecular docking<\/strong> technique together with corresponding free energies of binding (FEB), <em>Ki<\/em> values (<em>i.e<\/em> Kd), size-independant ligand binding efficiencies values and PDB files of corresponding protein-odorant complexes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Results for subsequent ligand screening is not yet available for Classic OBPs from other mosquito species and for all <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>PlusC<\/strong><\/span> and <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Two-domains<\/strong><\/span> (duplex formerly know as <strong>atypical<\/strong>) OBPs.
