Culex quinquefasciatus
Culex quinquefasciatus known as the southern house mosquito is a species of mosquito vector of parasite like nematodes that cause lymphatic filariasis and of viruses such as West Nile virus and St. Louis encephalitis virus. The adult C. quinquefasciatus is less than 0.5 cm long. They are brown with narrow cross bands on the abdomen and they have no white bands on the legs. It is one species can be found throughout tropical and temperate climates of the world and it belong to the Culex pipiens species complex. The genome of Culex quinquefasciatus is the third amongst mosquitoes to be sequenced and it has been published in 2010.
